Marine turbocharger service in Istanbul
The Istanbul Strait and the Sea of Marmara carry heavy ship traffic, and a turbocharger problem does not wait for a convenient port. This page explains how turbocharger work is organised for vessels in and around Istanbul.
Draft — pending technical reviewWhere is the vessel?
The vessel's position shapes the job more than anything else. We usually think of three cases.
- Alongside a berth: access is arranged with the terminal and the ship's agent, and the work has to fit around cargo operations.
- At anchor: the vessel is reached from the water, normally by a launch arranged through the agent, so timing depends on that arrangement and on sea conditions.
- At a shipyard: our technicians come to the vessel and follow the yard's site rules.
Reaching a vessel at anchor
Boarding a vessel at anchor is a logistics task as much as a technical one. The ship's agent usually arranges the launch and the permission to board, and the names of the technicians are often needed in advance.
Weather and traffic in the Strait and in the Marmara can affect when a launch is able to go out, so we ask for a realistic window instead of a fixed time.
Tools, instruments and small parts travel with the technicians. Larger parts and units are moved separately, so tell us early if a unit may have to leave the vessel.
Field team and workshop
Our field service covers on-board and shipyard work. If a unit cannot be repaired on board, it can be taken to our workshop in Tuzla, on the Asian side of Istanbul, for dismantling, reconditioning, balancing and testing.
Tell us the vessel's position and we will confirm whether and how we can reach it.
Field ServiceMoving parts and units
A unit leaving the vessel, or new parts coming to it, has to be packed, transported and handed over through the port or the anchorage. Port and customs formalities may apply, and the ship's agent normally advises on them.
Ask us early if parts may be needed, so that identifying and supplying them can start in parallel with the inspection.
Spare PartsPlanned call or breakdown?
If the vessel will call at Istanbul for a planned stop, send us the turbocharger details beforehand, so that we can discuss whether the work fits the stay and which parts to identify in advance.
If it is a breakdown, call or message us first and send the details afterwards. Our article on emergencies lists what to gather.

Questions about service in Istanbul
Can you service a turbocharger on a vessel at anchor in Istanbul?
It depends on the vessel's position, the unit and the access arrangements. Tell us where the vessel is and the turbocharger model, and we will confirm what can be done.
Who arranges access to the vessel?
Access is normally arranged with the ship's agent, the terminal or the shipyard, depending on where the vessel is. Giving us these contacts early helps avoid delays.
What if the turbocharger cannot be repaired on board?
After an inspection the options are usually a repair on board, an exchange of the rotating assembly, or reconditioning in our workshop in Tuzla. Which one is realistic depends on the condition of the unit, parts availability and the time the vessel has.
How fast can you respond to a breakdown in Istanbul?
Response time depends on the vessel's location and the situation. Please contact us as early as possible, with the details listed on this page.
