Field service for ship turbochargers

When the turbocharger cannot come to the workshop, we come to the vessel. Our engineers work on board and at the shipyard, and the unit goes to our Tuzla workshop when a full overhaul is needed.

Draft — pending technical review

What field service covers

Field service means turbocharger work carried out where the vessel is: alongside, at anchor or in a shipyard. Typical tasks are condition inspection, tracing the cause of an abnormal reading or noise, on-board repairs that need no workshop equipment, removal and refitting of the unit or its rotating assembly, and support during planned shipyard periods.

What is possible on site depends on the turbocharger type, the access in the engine room and the condition of the unit. We confirm this once we know the vessel, its location and the turbocharger model.

When to call us

Breakdown or alarm

A turbocharger alarm, abnormal noise or sudden change in readings, especially where the manufacturer's instructions say the unit must not keep running.

Planned shipyard period

A docking or repair period is a practical time for inspection, removal and refitting. Early contact lets us prepare.

Second opinion

A suspected fault that a specialist should assess before you decide between repair, exchange and overhaul.

Condition check

An inspection before a long voyage, or after a period of heavy fouling or repeated surging.

How an attendance works

01

Enquiry

You send the vessel name and position, the nameplate data, a description of the symptoms and photos. A call or a WhatsApp message is the quickest way.

02

Access and coordination

We agree access with you and with the ship's agent, terminal or shipyard, and any other party involved, so the engineer is not held up at the gate.

03

Inspection on site

The engineer inspects the unit and records its condition, with photos and measurements where access allows.

04

Decision

Together we choose between repair on board, exchange of the rotating assembly and removal to the workshop. The choice depends on condition, parts availability and the time the vessel has.

05

Work and handover

The agreed work is carried out and the findings are written up. A unit that goes to the workshop follows the same seven steps as any other turbocharger: reception and inspection, dismantle, measure, inspect, recondition, balance, test and report.

Before the engineer arrives

Follow the engine and turbocharger manufacturers' instructions for operating with a suspected fault, and avoid repeated restarts after an abnormal noise or alarm unless those instructions allow it. Record the readings and alarm history, keep any removed or damaged parts, and make sure the engine room is accessible and that the people who will work on board have been cleared.

Working at the shipyard and in port

Shipyards and terminals have their own permits, safety rules and access procedures. Tell us early whom to contact, so these can be arranged before the engineer arrives.

We attend vessels at ports and shipyards in Istanbul and the Marmara region.

Response time depends on the vessel's location and the situation. [Placeholder: response commitment to be confirmed by TurboTurk.]

After an attendance you receive a written summary of what was found and what was done. If the unit is overhauled in the workshop, the measurement and balancing results are written into the report.

Questions about field service

Can you service a turbocharger on board?

Yes. Field service covers on-board and shipyard work, depending on the unit and the situation. Tell us the vessel, its location and the turbocharger model, and we will confirm what can be done on site.

What should I do before the engineer arrives?

Follow the manufacturers' instructions for a suspected fault, record the readings and alarm history, keep any removed parts and arrange access for the people who will work on board.

What information do you need for an emergency call?

The vessel name and position, a contact person on board, the turbocharger make, model and serial number, what you observed, and photos of the nameplate and any visible damage.

What happens if the unit cannot be repaired on site?

It can be removed and taken to our workshop in Tuzla, Istanbul for dismantling, reconditioning, balancing and testing, or the rotating assembly may be exchanged where that is a practical option.
